Letter from a Durham Warehouse

Our state's senior Senator in the 111th Congress and 12th cousin of Alexander Hamilton's murderer, Richard Burr, voted yesterday against moving the $14 billion auto bailout legislation forward. He however voted for the $700 billion package to bailout Wall St. You should send him a quick email asking him how he squared that circle. I just fired this one off:
Dear Senator Burr,

I'm deeply disappointed by the news that you voted against moving legislation forward to rescue the auto industry with a 14 billion dollar bridge loan. What is more troubling, is that your nay vote does not square with your previous vote to authorize the 700 billion dollar TARP plan to bailout Wall St. How can you explain this inconsistency? Do you really value the people that work on Wall St. over the people that work in factories by more than a 50-1 margin? Do you recognize that the reason that Wall St has tremendous problems, is the very same reason that the auto industry as a whole, not just the Big Three, is suffering. That reason is a lack of credit and very bad management decisions. Labor costs amount to about 10% of the cost of producing a Big Three vehicle. So I would like to know why you voted against saving the American auto industry. It obviously isn't strict conservative ideology since you voted for the government to outlay 700 billion in spending to Wall St. It obviously isn't because you wish to help the state you represent, as 25% of North Carolina's manufacturing jobs are tied to the auto industry. It obviously isn't because you wish to help the country for which you serve, because 2.5 million jobs across the nation will surely be lost if the Big Three is too fail and such a massive job loss would drag down our sagging economy even further into the doldrums. So if it is not for your state, your country or even your ideology, for whom or what was your nay vote cast?
